NEW VHSL PHYSICAL POLICY:
Starting July 1, Virginia High School League is no
longer using the May 1-June 30 timeline for
sports physicals. Physicals are now good for
14-months from the date of the last physical.
Here are some FAQ’s regarding physicals.
Q: On July 1, 2025, if a student has a physical,
and the health care professional has signed within
the last 14 months, does the student-athlete need
to get a new physical?
A: On July 1, 2025, a student’s most recent physical
is good for 14 months from the date on which it
was signed by the health care official.
Q: If the valid physical was given prior to July 1,
2025, and is on the “old” form, does the
student-athlete need to get a physical using the new form?
A: No. The physical completed on the “old form"
is valid for 14 months from the date the health
care official signed the form was signed on page 3.
Important to note:
There are several student-athletes who will have
physicals “expire” in the middle of their fall seasons
this year, as many students got their physicals done
in the summer months of 2024. To remain eligible
and play in games, the student must get a new
physical to re-start the 14-month timeline.
Ex. If a student got a VHSL physical on July 20, 2024,
the student-athlete and physical will be in good
standing until September 20, 2025, requiring a
new physical on or before Sept. 20, 2025,
to remain eligible for fall sports.
